A Contralateral Routing of Signals (CROS) device is used when the hearing loss in one ear cannot be treated with a traditional hearing aid. It takes sound from the ear with poorer hearing and transmits it to a device worn on the better-hearing ear, making it a great solution for individuals with single-sided deafness.

A CROS can allow you to follow conversations in quiet and noisy environments without having to reposition yourself.

  • Suitable for individuals with normal hearing or hearing loss in the better-hearing ear
  • Available in most hearing aid styles

  • Bluetooth compatibility allows you to stream calls and media directly to your ears, and adjust your sound preferences using an app
  • Compatible with remote controls and streaming accessories, such as TV streamers and remote microphones

Extended Wear Hearing Aid Style

A Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) is a surgically implanted device that sends sound directly to the inner ear through vibrations. This is best used with outer- or middle-ear conditions in which a traditional hearing aid may not be suitable. While the implant surgery is completed by an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Specialist, the sound processor is fit and fine-tuned by an Audiologist.

  • Available in a variety of colours
  • Bluetooth compatibility allows you to stream calls and media directly to your ears, and adjust your sound preferences using an app
  • Compatible with remote controls and streaming accessories, such as TV streamers and remote microphones

Microphone in Helix Hearing Aid Style

Mic-in-Helix (MIH) is a unique solution which only ReSound offers. MIH was designed to provide the most natural sound quality and collects sound in the most efficient ways using your own ears.

  • The microphone is taken out of the device and has several advantages:
  • The devices can be built much smaller
  • It’s a perfect solution for wind noise
  • There is a lower risk of feedback (whistling or buzzing)
  • Made for iPhone (MFi), allowing you to stream sound directly into your hearing aids and use an app to adjust sound preferences
  • Compatible with remote controls and streaming accessories, such as TV streamers and remote microphones

FAQs About Prescription Hearing Aids

What are prescription hearing aids, and how are they different from over-the-counter devices?

Prescription hearing aids are tailored to your specific hearing loss and are custom-fit and fine-tuned for your utmost comfort and hearing needs. Over-the-counter hearing devices are generic amplification devices designed for perceived mild to moderate hearing losses. While they may provide some benefits in certain situations, they are not fit or fine-tuned by a professional, and they have not been approved as hearing aids by the Canadian government.

Prescription hearing aids are only available from a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist or Audiologist.

Do I need a hearing test before getting prescription hearing aids?

Yes. Similar to how before buying prescription glasses you need an eye test to determine which lens you need, to get hearing aids you’ll need a hearing test to understand your current range of hearing and what you need out of your devices.

How do you determine the right type of hearing aids for my needs?

During your comprehensive hearing assessment, we’ll measure your type and severity of hearing loss – but we’ll also work to understand you as a person, too. From which listening environments you frequent to how active your lifestyle is, we’ll use all the information we can to help you choose the best hearing aids for you.

Do you offer warranty and repair services for hearing aids?

Prescription hearing aids from Maico Hearing Service come with a five-year cleaning and programming adjustment package, which includes ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, support, and repair from our professional team. Additionally, most prescription hearing aids will include a 2-3 year manufacturer repair and loss and damage warranty.

Can I use my health insurance to cover my prescription hearing aids?

Unfortunately, there’s no universal answer to this, as every insurance policy is different regarding coverage of hearing aids and hearing tests. Please take a look at our Insurance page to see how our insurance specialist can help you figure out your insurance policy.
