My lifeline

Agnes has worn hearing aids since she was five years old. She says her hearing loss became apparent “when I was around crowds of people and the lighting was not good.”

My family would jokingly tell me that I needed hearing aids…

Recalling the moment Carolyn became aware of her hearing loss, she says it was her mother who actually pointed it out to her.

On January 17, 2011, I was involved in a major car accident involving two demolished vehicles. I was plagued by a loud, high-pitched noise in my head, making it almost impossible to go out anywhere. This led to me staying in my basement for nearly three years, unable to visit anyone, and my biggest concern became my inability to communicate. Additionally, since January 16, 2011, I haven’t been able to read a book – not because I lost the ability, but because I can no longer focus as I used to due to the tinnitus.

Before contacting Maico, I was very socially active and worked at a contractor’s desk, excelling at multitasking and serving more than one client at a time. After the accident, I found myself unable to be around friends, let alone contractors. Despite this, I had no reservations about seeking help because the situation was becoming unmanageable and was causing significant mental distress.
